If the first IVF treatment fails the couples and doctors may decide to continue for further tries. The embryos remaining from a first cycle IVF treatment and that are professionally frozen can be used for the following attempts beside fresh embryos. Many tests done before and during the first cycle treatment are not repeated for the following attempts.
In Vitro Fertilization - IVF is the name for one of the most wide-spread fertility treatments. Every year, thousands of IVF babies are born world wide. It is generally used when the other assisted reproductive technology options tend to fail. The procedure basically includes controlling the ovulatory process and removing ova from the ovaries, and fertilizing it with the sperm in a liquid medium. Once developed, the zygote is transferred into to woman’s uterus.
The starting point for the IVF method was treating the problems at the fallopian tube but today the enhanced technology provides opportunity to overcome a great range of fertility problems of both woman and man. The three main requirements of the IVF procedure are a healthy ova, sperm that can fertilize and a uterus capable of maintaining the pregnancy.
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection – ICSI (injection of simple sperm into the egg) supports the fertility treatment since it helps overcoming male fertility problems.
Procedure:
The procedure begins on the second day of menstruation. In 10-12 days the ovum develops and it is followed by the transfer. The total procedure takes about 20-25 days. Patients do not need to stay in the hospital but they should visit the hospital very often for the numerous tests required.
Notes:
There should be at least one month between two cycles.
